With the high prices for last year’s production, farmers were enthusiastic so increased acreage planted. Total yield estimated to be 45,000 tons a substantial increase. Reports state tht stocks ath the MCX must be replenished and that 1,000 tons have already been pre-sold to China. This has kept current pricing from declining rapidly. However the belief is that prices will become substantially lower in the next 2-3 months, subject to weather.

TURPENTINE & DERIVATIVES

The Chinese Turpentine market saw a small drop in prices between 150 – 250 RMB per ton, just before the Turpentine conference in Tianjin (week of 5/20/19). Cited for this continued drop is weak demand. Those big Gum Rosin plants that can withhold offers do to their financial stability are not tendering any offers. Reports keep indicating that down-stream processors are waiting for prices to continue to soften if they are not needing to order to cover existing business. Certain derivatives such as Dihydro Myrcenol has seen prices drop while others, such as Terpineols have remained firm.

With heavy rains earlier this year in the growing regions, reports state that yield will be affected once again. With the government forcing strict compliance to their environmental policy, costs will remain high. With new oil not expected until realistically September, prices will continue to firm.
