Charcoal Ice Cream

Visually stunning ice creams have been on trend for several summer seasons now with such a force that they’ve bled into the winter seasons. The summer of 2017 broke through one of the most intriguing looking trends we’ve seen yet in this category; black ice cream. It looks just as you would expect with an intensely dark, jet black pigment. However, the real mystery is in the flavor. Since there is no real connotation behind the flavor that would be with a charcoal-esque flavoring it’s open for interpretation and some playfulness. Examples run from a rich vanilla bean flavoring or substitute, coconut, or even black sesame. This “mystery” or yet unknown flavor is on trend in general.
