Description of Basil Oil Vietnam
A relatively new addition to the family of Methyl Chavicol-type basil oils, Basil Oil Vietnam is steam-distilled from the fragrant Ocimum basilicum herb. Similar to the Indian and Comores varieties, Vietnamese basil oil exhibits a spicy aroma, with notes of anise and fennel. This exceptional odor makes the ingredient an ideal candidate for use within fine fragrance, and its flavor works well in the traditional savory spaces that basil products are most commonly found.

Latest Market Info: Sep, 2021
In Vietnam, farmers are slowly transitioning away from basil and towards the cultivation of bananas, which have a higher profit margin. Basil farmers can typically get up to 3 cuts per year, with the last one having the best oil yields. Due to changing weather patterns and COVID-19 issues, Vietnamese basil farmers only had 2 crops this year: one in June and one in September. As such, oil production is reported to be about 50% lower than the previous year. No carryover remains and intense demand has driven prices up to historic heights.
