Description of Brominated Vegetable Oil

A functional oil commonly used in sodas and other nonalcoholic drinks to keep individual flavorings from separating, Brominated Vegetable Oil has a wide variety of applications within the flavor and fragrance industry. The oil has a fruity and mild aroma, often accompanying various citrus oils such as lemon, lime, and orange. Since the early 2010s, Brominated Vegetable Oil, also known as BVO, has been regulated in certain regions, limiting its usage as a food additive or beverage flavoring. One of the most prominent products featuring BVO as a flavor is Mountain Dew , though as of 2020, the flavoring has since been relegated to the "Mountain Dew Throwback" formulation only.
