A hybrid between watermint and spearmint, Mentha Piperita oil is cultivated and produced throughout many regions throughout the world. Steam-distilled from the dried leaves of the Mentha Piperita herb, the oil is also known as “true peppermint” and is largely responsible for peppermint’s widespread popularity among international consumers. Mentha piperita oil has a strong and fresh aroma, with a green and grassy top note that transitions into a clean, sweet-smelling dry down. The flavor of this oil is very similar to its odor, and peppermint is commonly added to candy, chewing gum, and oral care products. Mentha Piperita’s unique cooling effects are very strong initially but rapidly dissipate over time, leaving behind sweet and semi-balsamic undertones.
