Description of Opoponax Oil

Opoponax Oil is steam-distilled from the resin of the Commiphora erythraea tree, which is endemic to east Africa and the Middle East. The oil shares certain aromatic similarities with its close relative of myrrh, though opoponax differentiates itself with a sharper, balsamic, more animalic drydown. Opoponax Oil also retains a sweet, woody, amber undertone, making it a popular inclusion in perfume bases that emphasize amber notes. In flavor, Opoponax Oil is occasionally used in wines, liqueurs, and other specialty alcohols.
