Description of Perilla Oil

A thick and viscous material derived from cold-pressed Perilla frutescens seeds, Perilla Oil is a popular addition to Korean cuisine, as well as many other culinary and industrial applications. The oil has a fatty and diffusive odor, generally considered to be an unobtrusive addition to food products. The subtle nutty undertones of perilla also lends an interesting element to vanilla and sesame flavorings. Outside of the culinary industry, perilla oil is considered to be a “drying oil,” similar to linseed, making it a common ingredient within the paint and lacquer industry.
