The first Fundecitrus crop estimate for the Brazil 2022-2023 orange season was released today, May 26th. It currently predicts a harvest of 316.96 million boxes. Fruit yield is expected to be better with this upcoming harvest, and the majority of the fruit is expected to be harvested during the first and second blooms. These numbers may be adjusted depending on the rainfall for June through August. If rain conditions are optimal, the total crop will likely increase. However, if the rainfall ends up being less than expected, the harvest output will likely be lessened....

The lemon crop out of Argentina looks good, and harvesting for the 2022 season has already started. Current estimations are around 5-10% higher than last year, coming in at around 1.8 to 1.9 million tons. There have been no issues the quality of the fruit so far. However, the essential oils industry in Argentina is currently concerned about the ongoing lack of natural gas access. This may reduce the volume of fruit they are able to process, as winter in the Southern Hemisphere is quickly approaching....

The La Nina effect continues to play a role in Indonesia as we enter the “dry season,” and rain is predicted to continue over the next 3 months. From April to June of 2022, most regions of Indonesia are expected to experience moderate rainfall, with certain regions experiencing a 14% increase over their monthly average. This will have an adverse effect on many Indonesian crops including clove, clove residue, nutmeg, and other regional products....

It’s a little early to have a clear forecast on the forthcoming citrus season out of Italy, though the general consensus seems to be that crop volumes will be reduced as compared to last year. This is mainly due to the unfavorable climate conditions that occurred during the early post-flowering stage of bergamot, with temperatures in the region of Syracuse hitting nearly 120 F (48.8 C). These temperatures caused a significant loss of fruit, meaning that the harvest is expected to be delayed by at least 2-3 weeks....
