The La Nina effect continues to play a role in Indonesia as we enter the “dry season,” and rain is predicted to continue over the next 3 months. From April to June of 2022, most regions of Indonesia are expected to experience moderate rainfall, with certain regions experiencing a 14% increase over their monthly average. This will have an adverse effect on many Indonesian crops including clove, clove residue, nutmeg, and other regional products....

Rainfall has intensified in northern South Africa, which is where many tagetes farms are located. Rain typically makes it more difficult to harvest seeds from flower heads, which was an issue for the crop in 2019. We are currently waiting to see what effect this weather will have for the 2022 crop season....

Production is slowly continuing, though this is late for the typical season. Heavy rains and slow root collection have contributed to less oil production and lower yields for producers. Additionally, the challenging social situation in the region has caused numerous logistical issues, including severe difficulties in accessing fuel....

It’s a little early to have a clear forecast on the forthcoming citrus season out of Italy, though the general consensus seems to be that crop volumes will be reduced as compared to last year. This is mainly due to the unfavorable climate conditions that occurred during the early post-flowering stage of bergamot, with temperatures in the region of Syracuse hitting nearly 120 F (48.8 C). These temperatures caused a significant loss of fruit, meaning that the harvest is expected to be delayed by at least 2-3 weeks....

Prices from China have started to firm up on all GT derivatives. In early August, prices had dropped a bit and remained stable, though they soon began to rise again near the end of the same month. Since China’s Mid Autumn Festival, prices have continued to rise steadily, culminating in a large price increase on most items post-Golden Week. Certain items have gone up nearly 10% in price over just 7 days, which has broadly been attributed to the sudden restrictions placed upon Chinese power plants. Since October 5th, all factories in China have had to reduce their consumption of power, which affects their maximum production capacity. Materials out of China are used to produce all manner of other resources including steel, coal, and logistical supplies....

Brazilian harvest was severely delayed due to drought conditions affecting the main growing regions. We are expecting to see small volumes of oil in the October 2021 season. No carryover remains from the previous crop, which has contributed to price increases. Lower fruit outage, poor yields, and increasing cost of ocean transportation have also impacted the price of this product....
